Jérôme Lobato was born in Paris of a French mother and a Portuguese-Brazilian father. It was during his childhood that he discovered his interest in photography. This self-taught photographer captures raw and intimate images. His portraits and his still lifes are all motivated by an ultra-modern sensibility, incorporating narrative associations and an austerity of composition. There is an intimate connection between the artist and his subjects, and the viewer becomes the witness of something both elusive and intensely private.
This first monograph presents the results of Lobato's practice-based research on the production of images that seek to capture particular aspects of man's relationship to light, space and architecture, his main sources of inspiration. Always at the center, but always questioned, bodies become manufactured, controlled.
